Tony Borders / Cheaters never win (Soulscape)
Tony was once one of the most respected "southern soul" singer among Japanese collectors, his original 45s from various obscure labels were very hard to find but finally the clever Garry J Cape made this compilation album of his 18 songs, includes six previously unissued songs appeared in 1989 on a series of five LPs which were released in the UK, one of the best "southern soul", one of the best "Quinvy Studio" products

the same as UK Expansion's "The truth vol. 2" album (with different cover), his legendary "first" album which was recorded in the mid '90s for Motown but never released until recently, some of these tracks have already appeared on his other albums but this 14 track CD presents the whole effort, the kind of record that recalls the sounds of Donnie Hathaway, Stevie Wonder or Curtis Mayfield from the 70s but of course his OWN music

subtitled as "Okeh ans Savoy recordings 1952 - 56", too old sounds for you? no! you should listern this premier early R&B chanteuses of the '50s, her deep, gravelly voice was as singular as her recorded output for Okeh and Savoy (28 songs! here) which ranged from down-in-the-alley blues to pop-slantedballads, the mother of early R&B!
