The band Daybreakk! was formed in Gadsden, Alabama by brothers Austin Hall a.k.a "Winkie" and Sam Hall. The band has changed form many times over the last 15 years. The current line-up has five members, the Hall brothers and three lead singers; Earl Ford from Norfolk, Virginia, Barry Byers from Gadsden and Arthur Owens from Fayetteville, North Carolina. Each lead singer brings his own unique style to the group which makes daybreak different from any other band or group in the soul-blues arena. Barry Byers sings in that falsetto soul style of Lenny Williams, Phillip Bailey, and Eddie Kendricks. Earl Ford's style reminds listeners of soul-funk artists such as Sugarfoot of Ohio Players, and Lakeside. The band’s newest member, Arthur "A.O." Owens is the soul grit voice, reminiscent of Eddie Levert, Dennis Edwards, but with a touch of smoothness.

Austin Hall has written and produced songs for Cameo, Small Town Boys, Gospel Keynotes DGI Posse, and fellow locals as Bill Avery and Omar Cunningham including the hits, Hell At The House, Half, and Check to Check.

Interview with Austin "Winkie & Gerald "Sam" Hall...

-What did you grew up listening to?
Sam and myself grew up listening to gospel when were very young, but soon came interested in the soul music of Marvin Gaye, Sam Cooke, Al Green, Aretha Franklin. These artist we later learned wrote and sang their own material which is why I feel it was so emotional and reached out and just grab you.

-What is your musical background like?
We grew up in Gadsden Al. a small town that was on the blues chitlin circuit for acts like BB King and many others so music was and is a big part of this town. We basically taught ourselves to play by lstening to records over and over, and jamming with local musicians. We were fortunate enough to meet and work with gospel greats such as the Gosple Keynotes and Mississippi Blind Boys, also the Funkmasters Cameo.

-Tell me about Daybreak!!
DAYBREAKK was started about a little more than twenty years ago. We have three amazing lead sigers Authur Owens is the primary "lead vacalist" who has one the best voices that I've had the pleasure to produce and his stage presence is equally impressive. To sum him up just pure raw emotion. Barry Byers is a singer in the tradition of Eddie Kendricks and Philip Bailey and all the great falsetta singers. Ladies love his voice. Earl Ford is pure funk and blues whose voice and stage presence is equal to any of the greats like Sugarfoot(Ohio Players, Cameo, Jhonnie Taylor, etc.) he has a passion for music.

-Is there artists or producers you would like to collaborate with?
I would really love to work with Willie Mitchell who produced all of the great Al Green material as well as his recent material I think he is the single most underated producers in the business.

-What do you think about the US music scene and the music industry nowadays?
I'm really worried about the state of music because it seems geared toward dancing and big productions rather than playing and singing which to me is what it's about It seems the soul has been taken out thats why I think young producers look back to old material to sample from.

-Are you planning any releases or recordings?
We are curently working on a super talent to release later in 2005 which I don't want to give away to much to soon but it will be something I think music lovers will feel.

Some of Austin Hall's works;
Omar Cunningham
"Hell At The House"(2003, On Top)
Bill Avery
"Southern Fried Soul"(2004,Sound Mindz)
Born and raised in Gadsden, Alabama singer
